Three gentlemen were sitting around in a farm garage chatting about the status of farming, a doctor, a farmer and an engineer. The discussion began with the question of “What can we do to help the farmers that have only hand tools available to them in earning a living and livelihood for their families?” This began the discussion of providing the tools and abilities for the farmers to increase their efficiencies, acreage and yields, with the goal of reducing the labor efforts required.
The doctor responded that the issues the farmers are facing to becoming more productive requires them to buy more fertilizers and chemicals, which impacts their quality of life and longevity. The farmer responded that more training and organic solutions would allow for increased yields and quality of produce. The engineer stated that with the advancements of energy development and mechanization a small tractor could assist in meeting the described deficiencies that were holding back the small farmers. It was concluded from the discussion that the three combined together could create a solution. Thus, began the design and quest of the Garvey Tractor Company.
The listed items that are preventing small farmer success:
- Excessive labor required – planting, weeding, harvesting, transport
- Limitations on the size of the production due to labor

The Garvey Tractor Solution:
- Develop a small, affordable tractor to replace the labor intensity and manual labor requirements
- Design implements for the tractor to automate the planting, weeding, harvesting and transport of products
- Remove the cost of fuel for the operation of the Tractor through the use of a EV motor
- Include a solar powered charging station with each tractor for the recharging and excess energy for the farm
- No fuel is required for the life of the tractor
- Provide GPS Autosteering on the tractor for precision and efficiency in row placement
- Develop a process to be able to mechanically plant the field with precision spaced planting to maximize the yield of the field
- Provides multiple 3-point connections and pto for any combination of single pass operations
- Design the tractor so that the farmer will be able to work on it, and provide maintenance and repair training to the farmer
- The tractor can act as a mobile electrical source with included inverter
- Create a finance program for the farmer to reduce the up-front cost of the tractor
- Allows the farmer to modernize and participate in organic agriculture with increased sustainable productivity
- Assists in carbon neutral farming practices
- Provide the data and information to show how this tractor will replace, and improve, the labor of the farm at a much lower cost and higher yield
